|I am Daniel. I came to the UK in 2005. I am involved in helping others from 2006 first as a trade union shop steward and a staff representative. I had the pleasure of working and studying for the Trade Union Congress as Academy Organiser. That was the time I had the opportunity to meet many charities, organisations from the sector. One organisation, the Sunderland Polish Community Organisation wanted to dissolve so my friends and I decided that it would be a good idea to take it over and form a new place for all the migrants. Now our charity is growing and we are able to help more people than ever. ||My name is Michal and I have been involved in ICOS since August 2009. I directly manage several projects, including Back in Control and Wise Steps, as well as lead on funding and partnership development, ensuring that ICOS can continue to support our clients and grow. I speak Slovak and can get by in Czech, so I often support those clients who speak Slovak or Czech but speak little English. I also represent ICOS on the board of trustees of the Sunderland Black and Minority Ethnic Network (I am currently a secretary) and I am a Local Action Group member of the Sunderland Community Led Local Development (CLLD), which distributes EU funding to local groups in Sunderland. I am passionate about making a long-lasting positive impact on the lives of minority ethnic people in Sunderland and the North East. I was born in Poland and have lived in the North East of England since moving to the UK in 2006.||Hello, I’m Julia and I came from Poland to live in the UK in 2006 when I was only 9 years old. After graduating from Durham University in 2017, I started working for ICOS as an Outreach worker for the Healthy Steps Project and I became very passionate about supporting the BME community in Sunderland.|
Since 2017, I was involved in many different projects at ICOS, my position is now of a Senior Project Worker and I am also a coach on the Wise Steps Programme. My work mostly involves working with clients on one-to-one basis and supporting them with various problems and difficulties from employability, education, housing, welfare, health and wellbeing support to issues with domestic abuse, hate crime and discrimination.
I am very passionate about supporting and working with women, I currently run two women’s only projects at ICOS: Women’s Support Project and Positive Connections, we have women’s meetings on a regular basis and we engage in various fun and creative wellbeing activities.

|Before I came to the UK, I was running some management projects in Polish companies and a lot of interesting social projects for women or charity. A year ago, in the middle of a pandemic, I came from Poland to Newcastle upon Tyne to meet the local community. Now you can meet me when I’m swimming in the sea in winter, hiking in the mountains and forests, doing yoga or… learning something new. I am also a fan of art crafts (crocheting is my favourite!) and I run a small apiary with my partner. I joined ICOS to help you even more effectively – with everyday problems, self development and exploring England. See you soon!||Hi! My name is Kasia, I am originally from Poland and I have lived in the North East since 2007. I have been involved with ICOS as a volunteer since the very beginning, and I joined the team as a digital fundraiser in March 2022.|
I have been running a business crafting and selling wall decorations for customers across the world since 2011. I have also been selling vintage and upcycled items for several years as I enjoy giving things a second life.
I love animals, nature and good books, I also try to inspire others with my passion for yoga and caring for other people and the environment.
|My name is Ewelina. I am from Poland. I have lived in the UK since 2009. I joined the ICOS family in 2022 as a volunteer and presently I have been working on a Trainee Projects Worker position. My first steps in ICOS showed me that this is the place I want to be. In ICOS I am part of the Women’s Group Project and Newcastle Building Society: Employability Project. Both focus on individual needs, helping to improve people’s lives economically and mentally. With my new position I will help our clients resolve many personal problems such as domestic abuse, unemployment, lack of confidence, mental health, or isolation. Privately I am interested in meditation and psychology. I like fitness and spending time in the fresh air with my family.||My name is Olena. I am a qualified interpreter with over 15 years of interpreting experience|
(Ukrainian and Russian languages). I provide linguistic services to a variety of public bodies:
NHS, UK Home Office, Local Authorities, Police, Refugee Services, Mental Health, Ministry of
Justice, solicitors and barristers. I am honoured to be a part of a fantastic team at ICOS,
