On the 19th of June 2021 International Community Organisation of Sunderland (ICOS) organised a ‘Family Picnic and Clean up’ Event in Backhouse Park to celebrate Refugee Week. The event was a great success; the day was packed with fun activities for families across the whole of Backhouse Park!
We are delighted to receive such positive feedback from everyone who has attended the event and it was a pleasure to see everyone enjoying themselves.
During the event we have organised a park clean up and litter pick with East Rangers Project, our volunteers have also helped to fix the beautiful fairy trail. We have welcomed volunteers from the police cadets and scouts who have also done an amazing job with the park clean up.
At the football field we had sports games and activities including football games, badminton and we had the pleasure of having Anne Malabar from Groundwork who has delivered reduce, reuse and recycling workshop with children, creating various items out of upcycled materials.
We also had a stand with ICOS sport, COVID champions, charity shop sale and food vendor tent with appetizing traditional foods with heavenly vegetarian and vegan options available for everyone. We would like to thank our sponsors: Kopernik, Foodland and Polskie Smakolyki for donating traditional Polish food, refreshments, sweets and treats for children, every child has received a kinder egg and a goodie bag filled with treats as a surprise. Thank you to Dana’s Family Bakery for donating beautify baked bread and delightful buns and Paticake Patisserie for your gorgeous and delicious cakes! It is a pleasure to have such amazing support from our community!
We would like to say a massive thank you to everyone who attended and big special thank you to our volunteers who helped us to prepare everything for the event, participated in the clean-up and massive thank you to all our sponsors: Kopernik, Foodland, Polskie Smakolyki, Paticake Patisserie, Dana’s Family Bakery and everyone else who had contributed to the event!
