We Wish you Merry Christmas and a happy New Year and see you on the 3rd of January.
On Saturday the 15th of December 2018, we had a visit from Santa Claus who came from cold Lapland to visit our local community and gave out over 100 presents to children. This year’s event took place at Bede Tower in Sunderland, where families from Sunderland and surrounding areas had spent the afternoon enjoying attractions as well as singing carols and Christmas songs ( by Olivia Glover and Margaret sings).
The event was organised by ICOS (International Community Organisation of Sunderland) in cooperation with Adrian Harkusza (OBLIVION photography) and a group of hardworking volunteers. The event is bigger and better every year, as well as the number of stands on the Christmas Market, which has become a significant part of the event. Among the stalls you could find Christmas decorations, art such as portraits and sketches, beautifully embroidered baby clothes, personalised T-shirts, tasty cakes, organic and local food, as well as Polish Sunderland guidebooks, hand-made knives and much more. The market gave everyone an opportunity to find something for themselves, made by people with great passion and talents.
While children waited for Santa, there has been many fun activities for such as the balloonist, a drumming workshop, magic and circuits tricks, creative Christmas decoration making in the art and crafts room, and for all those who wanted to become a work of art, there was face painting done by a professional. There was also entertainment for adults, during the event, which included an auction, and the money collected money will be used to support current activities and projects ran by ICOS. However, the lottery was the most popular activity for adults, where amazing prizes with a total value of over £ 700 went to many lucky individuals who attended the event.
We would like to say that this event gathers so many local communities together during a very special time of the year and Christmas period, it allows us to feel even more at home as well as tighten bonds, meet new friends and spend a wonderful time with the family.
W sobotę 15 grudnia prosto z mroźnej Laponii Święty Mikołaj odwiedził dzieci z polskich (i nie tylko) rodzin i wręczył ponad 100 prezentów. W tym roku wydarzenie miało miejsce w Bede Tower w Sunderland, gdzie rodziny z całej okolicy spędziły wspólne popołudnie przepełnione atrakcjami przy kolędowaniu oraz piosenkach świątecznych (Olivia Glover oraz Margaret sings)
Impreza została zorganizowana przez ICOS (International Comunity Organisation of Sunderland) we współpracy z Adrianem Harkusza (OBLIVION photography) oraz gronem wolontariuszy. Skala wydarzenia rośnie z roku na rok, tak samo jak ilość stoisk na Świątecznym Markecie, który stał się już nieodzowną częścią wydarzenia. Pośród wystawców można było odnaleźć ozdoby świąteczne, portrety wykonane ołówkiem, pięknie wyszywane ubranka dla dzieci oraz personalizowane T-shirty, świeże ciasta, organiczną i lokalną żywność, a także jedyne na rynku przewodniki po Sunderland w języku polskim oraz ręcznie robione noże i wiele innych. Każdy mógł znaleźć produkt dla siebie pochodzący od ludzi przepełnionych pasją oraz wielkim kunsztem.
W oczekiwaniu na Mikołaja dzieciom czas umilał baloniarz, warsztaty gry na bębnach, sztuczki magiczne, kreatywne robienie ozdób świątecznych w pokoju artystycznym, a dla wszystkich, którzy sami chcieli zostać dziełem sztuki, malowanie twarzy przez profesjonalistkę. Nie zabrakło też rozrywki dla dorosłych. Podczas eventu przeprowadzona została aukcja, z której zebrane pieniądze przekazano na wsparcie działalności ICOSu. Największym powodzeniem cieszyła się jednak loteria, gdzie nagrody o łącznej wartości ponad 700£ trafiły do wielu szczęśliwców.
Można śmiało stwierdzić, że jest to jedyny event, który gromadzi tak licznie społeczność lokalna. W tym jakże wyjatkowym czasie oczekiwania na Święta, pozwala nam poczuć się jeszcze bardziej jak u siebie a także zacieśnić więzi, spotkać się ze znajomymi oraz spędzić udany dzień z rodziną.
